Volunteers

As a volunteer parent or caregiver, you play a vital role in your child's preschool experience.  Your volunteer coordinator will let you know how many times you are required to assist in class as a helper to our trained staff.  You will also be required to sign up for a spot on the Parent Committee which has a wide variety of jobs (i.e., Chair, registrar, toy cleaning, photographer, scrapbooking, etc.).  Please see the Volunteer Guidelines for further information.

Age of Students

Children registering for the 3 yr old program must turn 3 on or before December 31st of the year in which they are registering.  For example, Children registering for fall 2017, must have been born earlier than December 31st, 2013.  Children registering in the 4 year old program must be born on or before February 28th, 2013. If you are unsure which program to register your child in, we would be more than happy to discuss with you and assist in your decision making.

Snack Days

We have a parent run snack program at Scarboro Preschool.  When it is your day to volunteer, we ask that you bring juice and snacks for all the children in the class, as well as the teacher and aid.  PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT OUR CLASS IS A PEANUT FREE ZONE.  In an effort to reduce waste, we ask that each child brings a plastic cup and plate labeled with their name. Please do not send your child to school with gum, candy or food. In consideration of student allergies, there is a set menu for snacks. Learn more about Snacks.

 Sharing

Sharing begins after Christmas break.  On days that you provide snack, your child may bring something from home which gives them the opportunity to share with the class.  Otherwise, please encourage your children to leave toys  at home.

Clothing

Please encourage your child to dress and undress themselves.  It is the parent's responsibility to see that their child is ready to enter the classroom and leave for home. School craft time and physical activity time can create messy situations so please dress your child appropriately so they are able to participate.  We also require children to bring indoor shoes which can be kept in the appropriate bucket or taken home each day. Please also ensure children come with a second set of clothing incase of spills.

Holidays

Scarboro Preschool will follow the same holiday schedule as the Calgary Public School. Upcoming holidays will be posted in the hall as well as on the website calendar.

Drop Off / Dismissal

The teacher will open classroom door prior to the start of each class. We ask you to remain in the hall with your child until the door opens. Let teachers know in writing if someone else will be picking your child up at the end of class. Please pick your child up promptly at the end of class. If you are going to be late, it is your responsibility to make alternate arrangements for the pick up of your child.

Absent / Sickness

If your child is not well, please do not bring them to school. We request this in consideration of all the children and staff. We will contact you to pick up your child immediately, should they become ill at school.  If you know in advance your child will be away, please let your teacher know and/or phone the preschool at 403-228-3446. Children are not to come to school within 24 hrs of having vomited or had diarrhea.

Emergency

In the event of an emergency at Sunalta Elementary, we will take the children across the street to a neighbour's house and the teachers will then notify the parents.

Discipline Policy

Limits and rules will be set with the participation of the children.  Every effort will be made to ensure that your child understands the set rules, limits and consequences regarding the safety and rights for themselves, other children and the physical facilities.  Learn more about our Discipline Policy.
